Within the vast realm of Jeet Kune Do lies a treasure trove of knowledge and techniques, a repository so profound that exploring its depths could span a lifetime. Distilling the most functional aspects of JKD into an accessible format has been a personal mission spanning over two decades for me. Originating as a program designed for the East Coast Navy SEALs, who grapple with time constraints for martial arts training, it has evolved into a streamlined formula embraced by various government agencies.

Crafting a Game Plan: In the realm of professional sports, athletes devote surprisingly little time to refining basic skills and more time to develop, learn, and execute specific plays. A football team would never enter the Super Bowl without a meticulously crafted game plan. A similar approach should be adopted in self-defense. Mere possession of skills and techniques is insufficient; a well-thought-out agenda is essential. Attempting to formulate a defensive strategy in the adrenaline-fueled moments of an attack is impractical. A practiced game plan ensures instinctive survival actions in crisis situations.

Introducing the RAT System: Rapid Assault Tactics: Angelo Dundee, renowned trainer of Muhammad Ali, once asserted, "The first-est with the most-est is the best-est!" This insight underscores the significance of overwhelming an opponent in a street fight, not just physically but emotionally. Overwhelming an opponent emotionally—inducing flinching, eye-shutting, covering up, or even turning away—paves the way for a more manageable encounter. The foundation of Rapid Assault Tactics (RAT) draws inspiration directly from Bruce Lee. While Lee never formally articulated this systematic approach, his tactics in serious altercations inherently embodied these principles.

The critical juncture in any street fight lies in the exchange of blows when vulnerability peaks, particularly if the opponent is larger and stronger. The ability to unleash a sudden burst of rapid firepower, assaulting the opponent swiftly, becomes a paramount asset. This is the essence of Rapid Assault Tactics—drawing from the principles ingrained in Bruce Lee's approach to serious confrontations.

As practitioners delve into the RAT System, they discover a dynamic approach rooted in efficiency and adaptability. Whether navigating the complexities of hand-to-hand combat or preparing for real-world threats, the principles of Rapid Assault Tactics offer a strategic and formidable framework. Embrace the wisdom of Bruce Lee, channeling the spirit of overwhelming precision and adaptability—the core elements that define the Navy SEAL Fighting System.
