Embarking on the Phase Level test is more than a physical challenge; it's a holistic exploration of one's martial prowess and the culmination of dedicated training. As you prepare for this rigorous assessment, let's delve into the testing procedure, technical components, sparring strategies, and the invaluable lessons embedded within each phase.

Before diving into the technical intricacies, let's lay the foundation for success. Adequate rest, a good night's sleep, and ample hydration are prerequisites for the day of your test. The body and mind must be primed for the challenges that lie ahead.

The heart of the Phase Level test lies in the technical mastery of various sets. From double stick drills like the intricate Abecedario to single stick techniques encompassing Tip Up Deflections, Inside Disarms, and Hubud, each set contributes to the multifaceted skill set required for success.

The integration of boxing combos, Jun Fan Kickboxing, Kali-Silat, Krav Maga, and Jun Fan JKD Grappling adds layers of complexity, ensuring a well-rounded proficiency that spans striking, grappling, and self-defense scenarios.

As the test transitions to sparring, the philosophy of the "Brim of Fire" takes center stage. Maintaining a strategic distance, using JKD to enter or compelling the opponent to enter, and managing Fight Rhythm become pivotal. Interceptions, destructions, and a calculated approach define the sparring rounds.

Three five-minute rounds of sparring unfold, emphasizing the importance of deep breaths, relaxation, and the application of correct fight measure, distance, and timing. The emphasis is on form, fluidity, and the execution of learned techniques under duress.

Round 1 introduces technical (isolation) sparring, focusing solely on hands. Subsequent rounds isolate feet, and a combination of hands and feet, challenging participants to adapt their strategies to varied scenarios. The intricate combinations culminate in a 2-on-1 sparring session, adding an extra layer of complexity.

The Defang the Snake segment introduces sparring scenarios with single stick, knife, double stick, double knife, and a mix of both. The ability to disarm opponents while preserving personal safety becomes paramount.

The final round weaves together elements from Contemporary JKD and FMA, encapsulating the essence of practical application. From Wall Drills to the Nut Cracker Straight Blast Drill and free sparring, participants are tested on their ability to synthesize their training into real-world scenarios.

Beyond the physical exertion lies a reflective moment. As the instructor scores and regular class resumes, participants are encouraged to ponder what they've learned, not just what they've earned. The emphasis is on personal growth, understanding the interconnectedness of the training, and appreciating the journey undertaken.

The Phase Level test stands as a testament to authentic training, influenced by none other than Paul Vunak, renowned for his extensive work with Seal Team 6. The lineage of knowledge passed down from such training sessions is a unique facet of this testing experience.

As the test concludes, the overarching message is clear—this is more than a checklist of drills. It's a journey of self-discovery, a validation of skills honed through disciplined training. The hope is that participants not only achieve their immediate goals but also recognize the enduring impact of their training on their martial journey.

So, train diligently, focus on form, and let the knowledge acquired guide you through the phases of the Phase Level test. May this experience be not just a milestone but a stepping stone toward greater mastery and understanding.
